Lisa Arseneau – Vice President - Lisa began her career in the transportation industry in 1986, joining Central Ontario Appraisers Inc. Her responsibilities included the day to day operation from scheduling appraisals to handling total loss negotiations. She was involved with many industry professionals including adjusters, claims examiners, insurers and insureds. Lisa had 5 years behind her when she made the transition to the Insurance Company side of the industry. Markel Insurance Company of Canada (Northbridge Insurance) is one of Canada’s largest transportation insurers. While there, Lisa developed an extensive network of industry related contacts that are still a very important part of her business life today. Her duties included underwriting, claims and information technology which allowed her to obtain knowledge of just about every aspect of the transportation industry. In 1997 Lisa decided it was time to attack the industry from yet another angle and became an insurance broker. Lisa was hired by a large Ontario brokerage and was put in charge of creating a new Transportation Department. During the next two years, she was able to connect more directly with the transportation companies and continued to develop and maintain her industry contacts. Since then she has worked as an insurance broker solely in the trucking and transportation segment. Currently in her nineteenth year as a Broker, with H L Staebler Insurance Brokers, she is as passionate today as she was the first day she started. Lisa belongs to several trucking industry associations and is active in all of them, staying current on industry trends, etc. She specializes in safety & compliance areas such as mock audits, company structuring and analysis and is very instrumental in bringing the industry to her clients.

What a great amount of support I have been witness to lately! It is exhilarating and really gives one a shot in the arm. The Trucking Industry was shown some real love on February 25th, 2015 when the TTSAO hosted a Round Table discussion focusing on MELT (Mandatory Entry Level Training). The Honourable Steven Del Duca (Minister of Transportation) was in attendance and showed that he is very engaged and very committed to making our roads safer by supporting entry level training for tractor trailer commercial drivers. Also, at that Round Table was David Bradley, the president of the CTA and OTA. Talk about fire power! The conversations that were had and what the speakers had to say were invigorating and enthusiastic, and I may go as far as passionate. It is amazing to be in a room of over one hundred people, all talking about the same thing, and for the most part, all of them being on the same page. There is always room for discussion, not everyone is going to agree about every point. But to see the camaraderie and the one mindedness was truly a great thing for me. I honestly believe that our industry will see some great changes going forward and that it

has some great leaders to take us there.
Speaking of great leaders, just over a week later, I was in attendance at the Women With Drive Leadership Summit. What an amazing collection of like-minded, passionate advocates for not only the trucking industry but for women in industry. They all spoke of mentorship, championing one another as women in transportation as well as bringing to the table a voice that has watched, learned and have something to contribute. Some notable quotes came from speakers such as Ellen Voie of Women In Trucking who said “always assume good intent’. I particularly liked that one. Other quotes such as “your careers…are you on the path or in the past” and a curious survey result that states “men are promoted for potential, women for accomplishments” left me wondering. Whether you like or dislike; agree or disagree, these are some provocative thoughts that were shared and anything that starts a conversation is a good thing, I say!
I am energized for the coming months. I see these conversations and summits and round tables turning into positive changes. New rules, sensible regs and a real proliferation of our industry…and all because ours is an industry that cares and believes in leaving it better off than it was when we got here!
