Milton, ON: The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada has announced it’s Ontario regional fall seminar, which will be held in Milton Ontario on Thursday October 19th.

The seminar will run from 8:30am to 11:30am and will cover three separate and diverse topics.  One of the advantages of being a member of the PMTC is that we actively seek opportunities to provide members with access to leaders in the trucking industry who provide information and practical solutions to keep their companies informed and better able to be prepared to protect the interests of their companies and employees.

The topics being covered are: An ELD Update, Social Media Investigations and CMV on Road Safety Inspections.

“Social Media Investigations”

Maeve Davis, VP Client Services at ISB Canada, will be presenting on Social Media Investigations. Social media networks have emerged as the next frontier for security investigations and this exciting presentation will include a look into the current social media landscape and the social media life cycle. Discover more about open source investigations, data collected from publicly available sources, and the full capabilities of geo-fencing, targeting a specific area to gather evidence of a current workplace investigation. Maeve will also discuss the potential landmines associated with conducting your own social media investigation and ultimately the importance of the handling of collected data and their court admissibility.

“CMV on Road Safety Enforcement”

In this session, Staff Sergeant Mike Hinsberger of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, and Chair of the Ontario Police Commercial Vehicle Committee, (OPCVC) and Constable Pat Martin, Vice Chair of the OPCVC, will walk attendee’s through some stats and information obtained from their CMV safety blitzes. Included in this presentation will be statistics, defects found, driver and officer interaction, among other interesting and helpful insights to help drivers and their companies be prepared if they get stopped for an inspection. Mike and Pat will also discuss the issue of distracted driving and other safety related issues.

The ELD Mandate, are you ready?

As of December 18th of this year, any truck operating in the USA will be required to operate with an ELD. Those who have existing technology that is not compliant with the US standard, will have until December 16th of 2019 to come into compliance. Are you ready for the mandate? When will the mandate come into effect for Canadian only carriers? In this seminar, Mike Millian, the President of the PMTC, who has been involved with the consultations with Transport Canada on the upcoming ELD mandate for Canadian carriers, will bring attendee’s up to date on the ELD mandate, where the timelines sit, and what carriers need to know to ensure they are ready and compliant with the mandate on both sides of the border.
