The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada and Trucking Human Resources Sector Council Atlantic have announced details of their annual Eastern region educational seminar.
The seminar will be held on September 6th, and will run from 9am to 12pm, with registration beginning at 8:30. This will be the 4th year in a row the two organisations have joined forces to provide attendees with exceptional educational value to take back to their work places. This year’s event will cover three separate topics, which will bring value to employees and employers from many different sectors of the Transportation industry.
The Topics covered include:
Electronic Logging Device Mandate Update: Mike Millian, the President of the PMTC, will provide attendees with a brief update on the ELD mandate. The ELD mandate became law in the US in December of last year, and Canada posted their proposed regulation in Canada Gazette part 1 at the same time. Transport Canada indicated a late spring or early fall 2018 Gazette 2 posting at the time of the announcement, however the posting has yet to occur. Mike will provide attendees with a recap of what we have seen since the US mandate took effect, and provide an update on the status of the Canadian proposal, as well as the status of Gazette 2 posting dates.
Are you a responsible Chemical Supplier/Transporter? Next up will be Cathy Campbell, President of Responsible Distribution Canada. RDC is a not-for-profit trade association for the distribution sector of the Canadian chemical industry. Cathy will present on what RDC does and its role in road and supply chain safety.
RDC is committed to taking every practical precaution towards ensuring that chemical products and services do not present an unacceptable level of risk to its employees, customers, the public or the environment.
RDC’s members adhere to a management program known as Responsible Distribution, which ensures a continual reduction of incidents that may result in or threaten injury to people or damage to the environment. If you handle chemicals as part of your business, this will be a great learning opportunity you won’t want to miss.
Cargo theft, an organized crime perspective: Cargo theft is an estimated $5 billion issue in the transportation Industry. The GTA has the highest rate of cargo thefts in Canada, with stats rivaling large US supply chain cities of LA, Dallas and Miami. Despite all of this, it gets very little media attention and is considered a victimless crime. In this seminar, Todd Moore, Vice President, Investigations & Specialty Risk with ISB Canada, will provide attendees with an overview of the issue, and describe the perspective from an organized crime level, the issues with media coverage, and involvement from an enforcement perspective. You will receive a unique perspective of cargo crime that you have unlikely received before. Your perspective of cargo crime, and how to deal with it, just may be changed after this insightful and eye-opening presentation.
In 2014, Todd developed a customized Robbery Mitigation Training Mobile App designed for financial, retail and pharmacy industries.
Todd has 30 years policing service with extensive experience in various specialized investigative units including the Intelligence Unit where he was the Supervisor of the Traditional Organized Crime Unit and conducted several investigations involving confidential human sources, police agents and wiretap investigations. Todd was also a former investigator in the Robbery Unit for several years where he was responsible for the investigation of financial, commercial and transportation armed robberies.
In 2003, he was the recipient of the Canadian Bankers Law Enforcement Award and Gold Medal in relation to a complex armoured truck robbery investigation.
