The PMTC’s next regional half-day seminar will be in Milton, Ontario, on October 18th, and it will run from 8 to 11:30am.  The seminar will cover three diverse topics that will provide value that fleets, and suppliers can take back to their workplace to help improve their operations.

The Importance of Qualifying Drivers:

Charlie Charalambous, Director of Client Services for ISB Canada’s MEE Division, will speak on the importance of qualifying drivers. As the driver shortage continues to impact transportation companies across Canada it is now more important than ever to ensure that carriers are properly qualifying new drivers. This informative seminar will look at the impact of fraudulent documentation, some of the costs associated with improperly qualifying drivers and the potential impacts this could have on your operation.

Are you a responsible Chemical Supplier/Transporter?

Next up will be Cathy Campbell, President of Responsible Distribution Canada. RDC is a not-for-profit trade association for the distribution sector of the Canadian chemical industry. Cathy will present on what RDC does and its role in road and supply chain safety.

RDC is committed to taking every practical precaution towards ensuring that chemical products and services do not present an unacceptable level of risk to its employees, customers, the public or the environment.

RDC’s members adhere to a management program known as Responsible Distribution, which ensures a continual reduction of incidents that may result in or threaten injury to people or damage to the environment. If you handle chemicals as part of your business, this will be a great learning opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Distracted Driving and Ontario Legislative Changes.

Cannabis legalization and moving violations continue to be hot topics of conversation in the trucking industry. In this two-part session, Alex Bugeya and Bud Kneller, co-owners of the consulting firm Frontline Commercial Vehicle Solutions, will open with a discussion on the recent changes to federal and provincial impaired driving legislation as well as zero-tolerance rules for commercial vehicle drivers.

Prior to their joint business venture, Alex and Bud spent a combined 30+ years with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation including time spent as enforcement officers, facility auditors, and provincial trainers.  Alex and Bud concluded their time at MTO in the St. Catharines Carrier Enforcement Program Office where they oversaw the provincial MTO enforcement training program.  Alex and Bud’s experience includes time spent as certified Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) instructors as well as provincial trainers for a large number of courses including hours of service, cargo securement and moving violations.  Since leaving the MTO, Bud and Alex have maintained their involvement with CVSA where Bud is the Secretary for the Cargo Securement Harmonization Forum committee and Alex is the Secretary for the North American Inspector’s Championship committee. This experience provides Bud and Alex with a unique perspective on the challenges we see on the road today, and the session will conclude with them providing an officer’s perspectives on the common moving violations we see, such as speeding, following too close and the new careless driving provisions.
