The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is the only trade association whose collective sole focus is the truckload segment of the motor carrier industry. Founded in 1938, the association represents dry van, refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, and intermodal container carriers. TCA is an organization tailored to specific truckload carrier needs.

The trucking industry is facing a litigation and insurance crisis. Costs are skyrocketing with no end in sight.  In 2019, over 800 trucking companies failed, many citing the inability to afford or procure insurance.

Inaction is not an option in the face of this crisis.  It makes no sense to wait for the insurance market to turn around.  It’s not going to happen anytime soon.  Instead, we must focus on what we can control.  That starts with the creation of a robust safety culture.

Building a healthy safety culture is the single best way to address this crisis.  It is the lowest cost, highest return investment that a company can make.  In a vibrant safety culture, employees know they are cared for, and morale is high.  The safest companies attract the best customers. Of course, insurance costs are lower.  Safe companies can devote more time to proactive endeavors because they focus on prevention and spend less time cleaning up the mess.

This is not theory.  It is a hard-core business proposition. The cost of primary insurance coverage at my company has decreased over the past several years.

I am CEO of Houston-based Jetco Delivery and EVP of Montreal-based The GTI Group, a combined $250MM logistics company. In addition, I am the co-author of the book Leading People Safely and I keynote internationally on the topic of how to build a healthy safety culture.

I have just released a NEW on-line course – Making Safety Happen – that teaches you how to grow your safety culture. Whether you are getting started, struggling or seeking to bring your culture to a new level, this course will help you.

Making Safety Happen is a six-module course designed specifically for executives, leaders, owners, and operations/safety professionals seeking to create a world-class safety culture within their organizations. In the course, I will share with you my 25 years of leadership experience, practical tools, and resources that will enable you to bring your safety culture and performance to a whole new level.

Throughout this hands-on course, you and your team will learn through six 30-minute recorded sessions and will gain tools that you can immediately customize and apply to your business. Additionally, with enrollment, you will get access to live monthly support sessions from me.

Take as little as one month or up to six months to complete the course and learn how to:

  1. Establish safety as a core-porate value;
  2. Decipher when good can be bad: identify and eliminate safety dysfunctions;
  3. Engage your front-line team in your safety mission;
  4. Create a just culture and ensure accountability for safe outcomes;
  5. Apply the power of process; and
  6. Utilize the right metrics: capture the leading indicator and practice prevention.

An investment in safety is an investment in your bottom line.  It focuses on the variables that you can control and will allow you to gain a tremendous competitive advantage in your market.
