Kara Kett, Manger of Driver Recruitment and Retention at the Contrans Flatbed Group has been selected as the winner of the 2024 Tenstreet National Recruiter of the Year award presented at this year’s National Recruiting & Retention Symposium in Burlington, Ontario.
Kara’s journey in the transportation industry began in 2009, and since transitioning to recruitment in
2012, she has consistently showcased her goal-oriented and driven nature. Over the past 12 years, Kara has overseen the hiring of over 1000 drivers, many of whom have gone on to retire after successful careers within our company.
In the words of those who nominated her, Kara’s commitment to the success and well-being of every individual she interacts with is truly remarkable. One thing that sets Kara apart is her ability to develop positive relations with each driver, as she makes a deliberate effort to connect with everyone that she works with and her relationships with the drivers do not end when they get into the truck.
Many drivers make an active effort to stop and check in with her when they are in our Hagersville office, and she never fails to ask about their family as she remembers their spouse and children. She truly embodies what it means to have a family feel within the company.
Kara’s ability to navigate through a male-dominated industry with grace and assertiveness is
commendable. She prioritizes the well-being of individuals over professional titles, demonstrating genuine care for each person she encounters. Her daily positive attitude and willingness to tackle challenges head-on make her a beacon of inspiration for those around her.
Kara has taken the time to mentor and share her expertise with other female recruiters, encouraging
them to take charge and manage their environment effectively. Further, she has shown how to be assertive when trying to get their point across, whether it be collecting and explaining information to drivers or working on projects within the walls of the company.
This same recruiter has utilized Kara’s advice, leading to the successful completion of several
recruitment projects that she has managed and improving the retention of drivers who may have been struggling to adjust within their first few months. Kara embodies the qualities of a dedicated, thorough, and compassionate leader. She is a go-getter, an overachiever, and a tireless worker who never shies away from a challenge. Her sense of humor, outgoing personality, and ability to attract like- minded individuals make her a positive influencer in both her professional and personal spheres.
