Lisa Arseneau – Vice President - Lisa began her career in the transportation industry in 1986, joining Central Ontario Appraisers Inc. Her responsibilities included the day to day operation from scheduling appraisals to handling total loss negotiations. She was involved with many industry professionals including adjusters, claims examiners, insurers and insureds. Lisa had 5 years behind her when she made the transition to the Insurance Company side of the industry. Markel Insurance Company of Canada (Northbridge Insurance) is one of Canada’s largest transportation insurers. While there, Lisa developed an extensive network of industry related contacts that are still a very important part of her business life today. Her duties included underwriting, claims and information technology which allowed her to obtain knowledge of just about every aspect of the transportation industry. In 1997 Lisa decided it was time to attack the industry from yet another angle and became an insurance broker. Lisa was hired by a large Ontario brokerage and was put in charge of creating a new Transportation Department. During the next two years, she was able to connect more directly with the transportation companies and continued to develop and maintain her industry contacts. Since then she has worked as an insurance broker solely in the trucking and transportation segment. Currently in her nineteenth year as a Broker, with H L Staebler Insurance Brokers, she is as passionate today as she was the first day she started. Lisa belongs to several trucking industry associations and is active in all of them, staying current on industry trends, etc. She specializes in safety & compliance areas such as mock audits, company structuring and analysis and is very instrumental in bringing the industry to her clients.

Last month I wrote about a recruiting job fair that we held in Burlington. It was in response to the severe shortage of qualified drivers in the transportation Industry. I am proud to partner with like minded companies that see the industry the way I do. KRTS is one of those companies and it was a huge success. I have always believed that our drivers are the lifeblood of trucking. They are so diverse in their personality, while all possessing similar traits. I’ve found that good drivers are kind, caring and passionate about their career. They want the same things: good pay for good work, safe roadways to ply their trade and personal gratification in a job well done.

During my career, I have been able to see the industry from various viewpoints – Directly with truck owners and fleets while working for an appraiser. Indirectly through insurance brokers when I worked for an insurance company and now back to getting to deal directly with drivers and owners alike again as an insurance broker myself. This also gives me the opportunity to be involved in things such as the recruiting job fair, and seminar series focused on transportation, etc. An example of the seminar series was The Driving For Profit Series. I am very proud to say that we were an initial sponsor for this excellent series and continue to support it as an attendee each time.
This brings me to our next endeavour that we are working on now. In keeping with the “Drivers are the lifeblood of our Industry” theme, we will be bringing about a new series that will be focused on our drivers and will be looked at as a “For Drivers Only” sort of thing. We have been talking to drivers and more importantly have been listening. Listening to them when they talk about what they do, how they do it, how they’d like to do it better, what would help them achieve their goals, etc. We believe that we can put together opportunities for them, paired with informative topical seminars all under the same roof. Sound good? We think so. Stay tuned to your radios, twitter accounts, and emails….we will be coming out with more information soon!
