The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada and Trucking Human Resources Sector Council Atlantic have announced details of their Eastern region educational seminar.
The seminar will be held March 20th at the Inn on Prince Hotel in Truro, Nova Scotia. The Educational Seminar will run from 8:30 until 11:45am, with registration & continental breakfast beginning at 8:00am. This will be the 6th the two organizations have joined forces to provide attendees with exceptional educational value to take back to their workplaces, and the first one since 2024. This year’s event will have officials on site from the Nova Scotia Department of Public Works to talk about Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety, upcoming initiatives and overall safety programs. In a second topic from the group, they will also have an official to discuss the current state of the MELT program in Nova Scotia. Consultations were held in the fall, and currently the government is working on policies and roll out of the program.
We will also have 2 additional topics, speakers to be determined, discussing HR practices and programs to help the transportation industry. Further details will follow.
The Topics covered include:
Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety & Enforcement Initiatives: Douglas J Leamon, Manager of Motor Vehicle Inspections, Training & Outreach with the Nova Scotia Department of Public Works, will kick things off by taking attendees through the various initiatives in place by the department and on the horizon to improve commercial motor vehicle safety and compliance in the province of Nova Scotia.
Mandatory Entry Level Training: In the fall of 2023 Nova Scotia announced they planned to move forward with Mandatory Entry Level Training in 2024. In person consultations were held in the fall, and a public consultation portal was opened for feedback. PMTC and THRSCA attended these meetings, and provided written feedback prior to the closing of consultations in December of 2023. Department of Public Works will have an official onsite to bring attendee’s up to date on where MELT is with in the Province & when we can expect the regulation to take effect.
