Every now and then, it can be a little tough to find interesting subject matter to write about. Well, that’s not the case today! I’m very excited to announce a new initiative from the TTSAO (Truck Training Schools Associations of Ontario) that has been in the works for a while. The TTSAO has been very instrumental in many platforms involving not only training, but advocacy and betterment of our industry.
In keeping with this, they created a Carrier Group, wherein trucking companies meet to discuss many relevant issues they are facing when it comes to accessing good, quality drivers. The Carrier Group has been in existence for a couple of years and has great value, both for the Association and the Carriers.
The TTSAO has now decided, on the heels of the success of the Carrier Group, to create an Insurance Group. Much like the Carrier Group which is comprised of Carriers, the Insurance Group will be made up of insurance professionals in the trucking industry that have a real stake in having better drivers, driving better.
It is my honor and pleasure to chair this newly formed Group, along with my Vice-Chair James McFarlane. We have invited several industry professionals to join us on December 1, 2017 at a meeting to announce our mission statement and plans for the Group. I feel we have a nice cross section of insurance members. From insurance brokers, to insurance companies, to safety risk specialists, I believe we can accomplish many things together. Our main focus will be on how we can, as a group, collaborate and bring together two very important sectors of our industry. By Insurance and Training partnering together, we can not only set standards, but meet them!
Stay tuned for my next offering here, where I will fill you in on how our first meeting went and other “coming outs”, so to speak in the following weeks.
Remember, we should all want to see Better Drivers, Driving Better!
