Just around the corner is without a doubt one of our favourite industry events, the annual Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC) Annual Conference, June 21st – 23rd.
If you have attended since new leadership took over the PMTC you know what I am talking about – if you have not you’re missing a great event. This is year it is in Hamilton or as some know it “THE Hammer”. The Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen’s is a terrific venue. This years conference promises to be another hit for sure.
Why do we at KRTS, Transrep and the Rear View Mirror like this event so much? We love the celebration of the industry and most importantly the people in it. The awards portion of the conference is a highlight starting with the CPC Logistics Canada Driver Hall of Fame which inducts four professional drivers who have compiled outstanding safety records over the course of their careers. This is always a conference highlight and so important to give recognition to the drivers and their families and loved ones.
At the conclusion of the Driver Hall of Fame the Rick Austin Memorial Dispatcher of the Year is presented. Dispatchers are an integral part of any fleet and it is so good to see the PMTC recognize a deserving individual in this area of the industry.
At the Chairman’s Dinner two other awards are presented. The PMTC-KRTS Driver Training Scholarship Award is presented to a deserving recipient and it covers the enrolment of an AZ course and is sponsored by our company, KRTS Transportation Specialists Inc. We have sponsored this award since its inception and we are honoured to offer this up to the winner voted on by the PMTC committee.
Following the presentation of the Driver Training Scholarship the PMTC – Aviva Private Fleet safety Awards are presented to private fleets with exceptional safety records. These companies are the best of the best.
Other parts of the conference that are worth talking about is the Cocktail Reception sponsored by TruckRight and that is held in the exhibitors area. See all the latest greatest products and services being offered in the industry as you enjoy complimentary refreshments and chat with the industry experts.
Another great award is the YLG-tenstreet Education Bursary Awards that are presented to one YLG member and one Mohawk student from the Mohawk Supply Chain Management Program. The recipients receive the funds to complete two of the four courses needed to complete the PMTC Logistics Management Graduate Program.
Last but not least for sure is the very popular PMTC – 3M Vehicle Graphic Awards where you will see some of the best fleet graphics to be found anywhere.
Awards! Awards and more Awards!!!! It is always exciting.
The educational side of the conference is always relative to what is happening in the industry and the PMTC brings out some of the industries finest with a number of great sessions including:
  • A legal update
  • 2022 Canadian Benchmarking Survey
  • Navigating the Employee Driven Labour Market
  • Fatigue Impairment with Motor Carriers
  • Risk Management 201
  • Generational Leadership, Past, Present and Future
  • How Eco Driving Translates to a Safer Fleet
  • Transport Canada Update on Federal Initiatives
  • Planning and Deploring RNG, Hydrogen and Electrification to Attain Fleet Emissions Reductions
  • Going Beyond ELD Data with Fiona the Fleet Manager
  • Load Securement in Canada and Harmonization With The USA
There is really something for everyone, and the networking opportunities are endless. As a proud participating member of the PMTC I would encourage you to consider attending or sending someone from your company and don’t wait to long – I think we are in for a sell out!
Hope to see you there!
