The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada’s Young Leaders Group (PMTC YLG) continued their annual tradition of hosting a December breakfast meeting to raise funds for a local area food bank. The event took place on December 14th in Milton, On. The meeting location was generously donated by 3M Canada.
In addition to raising funds to help those in need, attendees also received some valuable education, networking opportunities, and helped plan out the YLG’s calendar of events for next year.
The meeting started with Christi Scarrow, Managing Partner at Lighthouse Nine Group, as well as a CITT Course Instructor, providing a presentation on Influencing Change. Christi equipped the group with a critical skills applicable to this stage in their careers. Key takeaways were:
- understanding the elements of trust
- active listening skills
- how to use a belief mapping tool
- exercise the principles of negotiation with confidence
- agreement language
- phrases that diminish confidence
Christi’s engaging and interactive presentation helped to equip those in attendance with the tools, strategies, and the mindset to be confident with their voice and ability to lead change.
Next up Leanne Drummond, YLG Chair, and Business Development Manager for Canadian Operations of CPC Logistics Canada, let those in the audience know about some of the YLG initiatives planned for the next year, as well as provided a brief review of the just completed Driven to Lead program. The Leadership training and development course, facilitated by Dale Carnegie, was a huge success, and due to the positive reviews, will return again in September of 2024. Further details and registration will open in early 2024. Thanks to our returning sponsors of this program, Trans Rep, KRTS and tenstreet.
The meeting closed with a YLG General Meeting for members only, where the group mapped out their goals for the next year.
Thanks to the generous donation of those in attendance, the YLG and 3M Canada, we were able to donate $400.00 in cash, plus lots of non-perishable food items, diapers, formula, cleaning/disinfectants, and many other necessary items which were donated to the Infant Food bank at the Milton Community Resource Centre!
“It was great to see so many PMTC Young Leaders out for our annual YLG Christmas Breakfast meeting,” stated PMTC President Mike Millian. The future of our industry in in great hands with the enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge and sharing these individuals show on a constant basis.”
Leanne Drummond added; “The beauty of the YLG is that we have the freedom to create learning opportunities and activities that suit us best at this stage in our careers. This training was a topic that we collectively needed and hadn’t encountered at other industry events. Through our ongoing relationship with CITT, we were connected with Christi who is not only a CITT course instructor, but also an executive coach, Tedx speaker, and author. We were thrilled to have such a high caliber speaker share her time and knowledge with us. Thank you to Christi, 3M for hosting us, and thank you to our YLG members and their organizations for the food bank donations. Lot’s to be excited about for 2024!”
