Recently I was invited to speak at the Alberta Motor Trucking Association’s (AMTA) Annual Conference in beautiful Calgary, Alberta held at the magnificent Grey Eagle Resort & Casino. What a venue! I love Calgary, with a numbers fond memories over the years, the best being watching my daughter Jamie compete in the World Jr. Equestrian Championships at the crown jewel Spruce Meadows. What an experience for her and our family.

Fast forward 14 years and most of you know Jamie (Richardson) Phillips as the VP of Business Development of Transrep Inc. Her competitiveness for winning and success has transpired into her contributions to our family businesses.

My presentation to the large audience of transportation professionals was “Hanging Onto Your Millennial’s”. It was so much fun. We really appreciated the opportunity and I will say the entire team at the AMTA knocked it out of the park. The AMTA team know how to run an event, they know how to have fun and they know how to make you feel good. From the welcome reception on the first evening to the two days of amazing presenters and panelists, the incredible food, award presentations and entertainment, this was a first class event from start to finish hosted by first class people.

The event also gave Don MacDonald, co-chair of the Professional Truck Training Alliance of Canada (PTTAC) and I to meet with the Alberta government and congratulated them on announcing they will be a leader in Canada pursing Red Seal Apprenticeship for Commercial Driver’s in Canada. The PTTAC will be working alongside industry likeminded stakeholders, the Alberta government and the Honourable Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors and his team as we pursue this common goal. I encourage you to check out our website at www.pttac.ca to learn more.

Thank you AMTA for being the conduit to these meetings and for hosting such a terrific conference. A tip of the hat to the AMTA.
